General Notes

STAMPA will take place in the Royal Dublin Society, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 from Friday 16th October to Sunday 18th October 2009. There are several competitions ranging from novice to senior grade, and entries will be judged by an international jury of distinguished philatelists. Competitors may exhibit in more than one class, but only one entry can be submitted in each class.

Entry forms, accompanied by the full fee and a copy of the Introductory Page/Exhibit Plan, must be returned by 14th September. Exhibits sent by post/courier must be received by Monday 12th October. Entries delivered in person must be delivered to the exhibition hall by 12 noon on Thursday 15th October.

Trophies and medals will be presented at the STAMPA Awards Dinner (venue to be announced later) on Saturday 17th October 2009. Tickets are Euro 40 each. Reservations to STAMPA, PO Box 2723, Cardiff Lane, Dublin 2, Ireland.

Traditional, Postal History, Thematic, Revenue and Aerophilately Classes
Regulations
  1. Exhibitors may apply for a minimum of three frames and a maximum of five frames. The number of frames applied for may be reduced in the event of over-subscription and exhibitors will be notified of any change. The competition is open to all collectors.
  2. Each frame holds up to sixteen sheets. The recommended size is 23cm x 29cm or A4. Pages exceeding this can be accommodated but may overlap.
  3. The exhibit may comprise postage or revenue, handstruck or adhesive stamps of any country, theme or period, or any material directly relating to philately or postal history.
  4. Exhibitors may display their collection under a pseudonym.
  5. All items exhibited must be the property of the exhibitor. Indications of value should not appear in the exhibit. The entry must have an introductory page and be given a TITLE.
  6. The entry fee per frame (minimum three frames) is Euro 15 (Stg£12, US$23) for STAMPA members, and Euro 20 (Stg£16, US$31) for others.
  7. All pages must be in exhibition protectors, otherwise they will be disqualified.
  8. Exhibitors must arrange their own insurance. The Council will take all reasonable care of exhibits left in its charge but disclaims any responsibility for loss or damage howsoever caused.
There are no Customs formalities for exhibits from within the European Union. Exhibitors from outside the EU must clear Customs. The Exhibits Secretary can recommend a broker, if required.

The Open Philately Class

Exhibits in this class may include postcards, labels, autographs, newspaper cuttings, photographs, maps and documents, and other material not normally accepted in competitive exhibits

Regulations

  1. Regulations 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 from the main competition will apply.
  2. Exhibits must contain at least 50% of philatelic material.
  3. They may contain up to 50% of non-philatelic material, which must be
  4. original and be capable of being mounted in standard exhibition frames.
  5. The competition is open to all collectors.
One Frame Class

The purpose of the One Frame Class is to encourage new exhibitors and provide established exhibitors with an opportunity to prepare exhibits on subjects or themes that cannot be treated well in more than one frame. One frame exhibits may be in any of the following categories – Traditional, Postal History, Thematic, Revenue or Aerophilately. The category must be indicated on the entry form.

Regulations

  1. Regulations 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 & 8 from the main competition will apply.
  2. Exhibits must not exceed the capacity of one frame (16 pages).
  3. The entry should narrate the complete story of the chosen subject, i.e. an issue, a stamp, an event or theme, etc.
  4. The competition is open to all collectors.
  5. The marking will be on the same basis as the corresponding main category classes. Certificates will be awarded to all entrants and a trophy will be presented to the overall winner in this class.
  6. The entry fee is Euro 15 (Stg£12, US$23).
Literature Class

  1. This class includes all published material concerning postage stamps and postal history, or any specialised fields thereof, provided that the entry is published and printed in Ireland, or, if not published and printed in Ireland, that it is concerned mainly with Irish philately or postal history.
  2. Handbooks, catalogues or periodicals may be exhibited.
  3. Dates of publication must be no earlier than five years prior to the year of the exhibition. Periodicals are exhibited by complete volume or year.
  4. Literature may only be entered by the author, compiler, editor or publisher. Medals will be awarded on the same basis as the other classes.
  5. The entry fee is Euro 50 (Stg£40, US$78) for STAMPA members and Euro 60 (Stg£48, US$93) for others.
  6. Three copies of each entry must be submitted. These will be retained by the judges.
  7. The Novice Competition

    The novice competition, sponsored by Gwyn Bennett, is designed to encourage entries from less experienced competitors. The Gwyn Bennett Trophy will be awarded to the best exhibit. No medals are awarded in this class. Entries will be judged by reference to presentation, originality, research, general interest and condition, but not on the value or rarity of the material.

  8. Rules 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 & 8 from the main competition will apply.
  9. The competition is open to all collectors resident in Ireland who have not won an award at national level.
  10. Only one exhibit will be accepted per entrant.
  11. The entry must have an introductory page and be given a TITLE.
  12. The entry should consist of 16 sheets (one frame).
  13. Certificates will be awarded to all entrants and a trophy will be presented to the overall class winner.
  14. The entry fee is Euro 10.
  15. Awards and Trophies

    The following medals may be awarded by the exhibition judges, based on compliance with FIP standards:

    Gold (85% +) This qualifies the exhibit for FIP world stamp exhibitions.
    Vermeil (75% - 84%) —— ditto—————
    Silver (65% - 74%)
    Silver Bronze (60% - 64%)
    Bronze (55% - 59%)
    No medals are awarded in the Novice Competition.
    The following trophies will be awarded, subject to a sufficient standard being attained:
    David Feldman Trophy (the best overall exhibit)
    Irish Security Stamp Printing Limited Trophy (Irish stamps post 1922)
    Whyte's Trophy (Traditional philately - excluding Ireland)
    F. E. Dixon Shield (Postal History)
    C. O'Neill Memorial Trophy (Thematic)
    William Kane Trophy (Aerophilately)
    Éire Philatelic Association Medal (Best Irish exhibit – any class)
    Michael Giffney Salver (Open Class)
    Gwyn Bennett Trophy (Novice Competition)
